PC Cleaning

It is important to keep your PC Clean to keep the system running optimally - PCFixShop are happy to schedule a clean up your PC on the inside, but if you want to attempt yourself here are a few tips.
Whenever cleaning your PC or its components, you need to take extra special care about static damage. Using an anti-static wristband is ideal, but if you don't have one to hand, make sure to regularly ground yourself by touching your case if it is metal or the PC power supply housing.

Wear a face mask (we nearly all have them now) if you want to avoid breathing in any of the dust and dirt you remove from your case.
Turn off your PC and unplug the power cable from the rear. If you want to be extra safe, unplug all your devices.
Move your computer to somewhere well ventilated preferably outside cleaning dusty and dirty PC's can be a messy job.  Or if that is not possible at least open a window or door to let fresh air into the room.
Remove the side panels and also the front panel of your case (note some front panels cannot be easily removed).

Use a lint-free cloth and a can of compressed air to clean the dust from any dust filters, as well as any obvious collections in the base of the case.   See our updated covid19 response in regard of use of compressed air indoors

Use the can of compressed air (outside see covid19 updates)  - We Don't recommend trying to blow forcefully yourself - to clean the dust from any heatsinks like your CPU or graphics card cooler the dust particulates will end up in your nose and eyes.

Once you've knocked all the dust loose (outside), use a vacuum cleaner to clean up any dust that ends up on the floor. However, don't touch the vacuum cleaner directly on the components in your case, as there is a real risk of static damage.  You could use your vacuum cleaner as a blower- if your vac has that setting - but don't get the tip close to sensitive components and make sure you only perform this outside the house or business - see our covid19 guidelines.

If your PC hasn't been cleaned in a while, there's a good chance you have dust caked onto the fans, vents, and heat sinks. In this case, a quick dusting won't get you much further.  To maintain a healthy system, we recommend a clean at least every six months, or more often if you have pets or live in an especially dusty environment.  Deep cleanings, at least every 12 months is recommended if you want to maintain peak performance, to avoid any potential computer overheating issues.  If you don't fancy tackling this yourself Call Steve now to book your PC Deep Clean today
